Noise reduction in the mill grinding stage

Faena: Los Pelambres Mine

Deadline 16/12/2022

Closing Time 12:00 pm

The milling process at Minera Los Pelambres reduces the size of the ore required for the subsequent flotation stage and production of copper concentrate. The extracted and crushed ore is sent to the mill grinding stage where the noise level coming from the different equipment used, makes it necessary for workers to use hearing protection. Due to the conditions in the work area that make it difficult to control the noise level, it is necessary to implement technological solutions to reduce the propagation of noise in the place where the grinding equipments are located, reducing the sound pressure levels to which workers are currently exposed.

Identify technological solutions or developments that can reduce or eliminate the propagation of noise at the source of emission and/or in the propagation medium. Solutions in the fields of insulation, conditioning or acoustic cancellation, among others, are expected without being exclusive.

  • Ability to reduce the noise level with focus on the operation of mills, pumps, motors, hydrocyclones, among others; being possible to propose solutions for any or all of the above mentioned equipment.
  • Minimum operational interference for installation, operation and maintenance of the proposed systems.
  • Technology Readness Level of at least a validated prototype in a relevant environment (> TRL 4)*.
  • Heavy duty technology due to the dust and humidity conditions in the mill grinding stage.
  • Meet with the health, safety and environmental standards of Minera Los Pelambres. Background – Previous experiences Control room insulation and use of acoustic tunnels. Excluded solutions The following will not be considered in the evaluation process:
  • Consultancies or diagnostic studies.
  • Proposals related to hearing protection elements. Expected benefits.
  • Reduce noise exposure of people working inside the milling plant.
  • Avoid the progression of the deterioration of workers’ health and the generation of new occupational diseases. Key performance indicators.
  • Sound pressure level (dB).
  • Noise dose level (%). (*) TRL: Technology Readness Level
