Compañía Minera Teck CDA has asked Expande to prospect the local and international ecosystem to identify technological solutions that respond to the technical challenge “Reduction and/or mitigation of perceived noise generated by mining equipment”.
The extraction and material treatment processes within a mining company involve a large number of noise sources. For example, in the plant there are the processes of crushing and grinding and in the mine noise is generated in the processes of drilling, blasting, handling of mobile equipment, etc. At Compañía Minera Teck CDA the noise levels generated are measured by the different mine and plant operations, which are under the maximum levels permitted by Chilean regulations. However, due to the fact that the mine is located at a short distance from a populated area, it is necessary to take additional measures to reduce and/or mitigate the perception or impact in these populated areas near the operation of noise generated by mining equipment such as high tonnage trucks, bulldozers and loaders, among others.
Objectives of this prospection
Technological solutions are sought to reduce the noise generated by heavy equipment at emission sources (diesel engines, tracked equipment, hopper loading or others) and/or to mitigate the noise in areas close to this equipment.
The proposed solution must consider the following conditions:
• Minimal interference with the operation.
• Do not produce other environmental impacts.
• Do not require changes in the design characteristics of the equipment.
• Satisfy the safety and security guidelines of Compañía Minera Teck CDA.
